ICE prince, a Nigerian artist, who recently won the best international act award of the BET 2013 Awards, appears to be very excited over the prize.
The star rapper, who recently dropped Fire of Zamani, his second album thanked the organisers for the honour, noting that his selection for the award must have been aided by his hard work over the years.
The 27-year-old multiple award winner, who performed alongside Tiwa Savage, Sarkodie and South African duo, Mafizikolo at the BET 2014 Awards, said his musical career and international stardom were still evolving and lauded his fans, friends and family for standing by him.
Ice Prince, whose real name is Panshak Zamani, said Nigerian musicians were becoming the toast of the world because of their creativity.
My Kind of Woman – Denrele
ADERENLE Edun, a popular presenter and disc jockey aka Denrele, is not in a hurry to get marry yet. The popular artiste said this much in an interview when he assured his fans that he would tie the nuptial vow at the right time.
Speaking to a national daily newspaper, Edun said: “I think when that time comes, I will marry. I have been into many relationships. I have dated girls who would want to do anything I tell them,” adding: “I want a woman who can hold her own. I don’t want a woman who cannot make dialogue with me. I don’t want a woman who will want to change me.”
Music Has No Language – Phyno
CHIBUZO Nelson, a rapper and producer, known in music circle as Phyno, wants his followers to know that language is not a barrier to the appreciation of music. Phyno, who is renowned for doing his songs in Igbo language, said he was grateful to God that all his hard work had eventually paid off.
“At first I was bothered but if you know things about music you will understand that music has no language. One of the biggest songs between last year and this year is `Khona’ and we in Nigeria, we don’t even know what they are saying, so that’s how music is for you.
“You don’t need to understand what they say; just go with the flow as long as they come clear when it comes to their visuals so that’s why I take more time in my videos too. Being consistent is like one big challenge that every artiste that is already out has to face unless you are not out and you just have to fight for coming out or just to be relevant.
“But once you are out, the biggest challenge has to be consistency,’’ he said.
Phyno disclosed that he was currently engaged in a “collaboration album’’ with Olamide, a renowned rap artist who does his raps mostly in the Yoruba language, and described their union as a “divine blessing.’’
His full album titled: ‘No Guts No Glory’, was released earlier this year.
At Last, ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ Gets Approval
THE Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, has finally approved ‘Half of a Yellow Sun,’ one of the most acclaimed movies from Africa, for wide release.
Half of a Yellow Sun was earlier delayed by the NFVCB, after the board cited the current security situation in Nigeria and stated that the movie, which is a narrative of the Nigerian civil war, could incite more violence.
The movie is the adaptation of a novel written by Chimamanda Adichie. The movie has been classified 18 and above by the censor’s board.
The classification was announced Friday, July 4, evening alongside more than 70 other Nollywood movies. It came at a time the producers of Half of a Yellow Sun already enlisted it for online viewing in the United States.
According to Caesar Kagho, censor’s board corporate affairs representative, “all approved movies fulfilled the regulatory conditions stipulated by the NFVCB.”
