Biotechnology will improve agric produce, spur Nigeria’s economic growth - Ukodhiko

DEPUTY Chairman of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, said, use of biotechnology would improve agricultural produce and spur economic growth of the nation.
Hon. Ukodhiko made the declaration on Thursday in his goodwill message at the 2023 Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology in Africa (OFAB), Nigeria Chapter Media Award and Gala Nite held at Abuja.
According to him, “Agricultural biotechnology stands at the intersection of science, agriculture and innovation.”
Noting that, “it holds the promise of revolutionizing our agricultural practices, enhancing food security, and mitigating the challenges posed by climate change.
“Biotechnology innovation have the potential to create crop varieties that are resilient to pests, diseases, and adverse weather conditions.
“These innovations can empower farmers to boost agricultural productivity, and contribute significantly to the nation’s economic growth.“ Ukodhiko said.
Earlier in his remark, the Isoko federal lawmaker commended the Nigerian journalists for their untiring efforts in communicating the complexities of agricultural biotechnology.
“Your dedication to accurate reporting and your ability to translate scientific jargon into accessible information are commendable. Your work not only informs but also educates, inspiring a new generation of scientists, farmers, and policy makers.”
Hon. Ukodhiko assured of the unwavering support of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Science and Technology in advancing agricultural biotechnology in the country.
He said, “We are committed to fostering an environment that encourages research, innovation, and responsible application of biotechnological solutions in agriculture.
“Our Committee will continue to advocate for policies that facilitate research and development in this critical field.
“Moreover, we are dedicated to ensuring that the public is well-informed about the benefits and safety measures associated with agricultural biotechnology.” Ukodhiko added
