Tony Elumelu, banker and managing director, United Bank for Africa, UBA, 52, March 22. Born in Jos, Plateau State, he was educated at Delta State University, Abraka, 1985-1991; University of Lagos, 1986-1987. He worked in the operations and foreign exchange department, Union Bank Nigeria PLC and was also financial analyst, All States Trust Bank, 1988. Elumelu was the executive director, Linkage Assurance Company Limited, 1995 and executive director, Merchant Bank of Commerce in 1997. He retired from the UBA in 2010 as managing director/chief executive officer, but was reappointed as managing director in 2014.

Obinna Chukwudum Uzoh, lawyer, administrator, industrialist, politician and the managing director/chief executive officer, Gocuz Group Limited, 52, March 17. Born in Ihiala, Anambra State, he was educated at the University of Lagos; the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, and Lagos State University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Master’s degree in Marketing, and LLB in law. He also holds a doctorate in Economics from the Lagos State University. A philanthropist who has touched the lives of many people through the award of scholarships to students, educational endowment, sport development, and building of places of worship, Uzoh is the chairman, Board of Trustees, Madonna University Okija, Anambra State; member, Nigerian Bar Association; fellow, Institute of Cost Management; fellow, Institute of Internal Auditors; member, Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, and member, Nigerian-Asian Chamber of Commerce, amongst others. Uzoh is also a founding member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as well as a former gubernatorial aspirant of the party in Anambra State. He is married with children.

Rose Chinyere Uzoma, administrator, career public servant, 62, March 23. She was educated at Methodist School, Amaokwe-Item; Queen’s College, Enugu; Olivet High School, Oyo, and University of Ibadan. She joined the Nigeria Immigration Service in 1978, and was appointed comptroller-general of Immigration on July 30, 2010. She also retried from the service on January 15, 2013.

Abba Dabo, journalist, publisher, 63, March 21. Born in Dambatta, Kano State, he was educated at Wudil Teachers’ College, Kano, 1966-1971; School of Basic Studies, 1972-1973; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1973-1977. Dabo started his career with New Nigerian Newspapers Limited, as economic correspondent between 1979-1980; editor, Gaskiya Ta Fi Kwabo, 1981-1982; editor, Sunday New Nigerian, 1982-1983; chief press secretary to President Shehu Shagari, Novermber-December 1983; managing director, Triumph Publishing Company Limited Kano, 1984-1986; publisher, The Insider, 1987. Dabo, who is a member of several organisations both locally and internationally, was a member of the Constituent Assembly, 1988-1989; and secretary to the Kano State government.

Ibrahim Coomasie, former inspector general of police, 72, March 18. Born in Katsina State, he was educated at the Provincial Secondary School, Zaria; Barewa College, Zaria; Detective Training College, Wakefield, UK, and in Institutions based in Washington DC, US.
