Olisa Agbakoba, lawyer, former president, Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, 62, May 29. Born in Jos, Plateau State, he was educated at Government Primary School, Jos, 1958-1962; Hillcrest School, Jos, 1963; Zixton Public School, Ozubulu, Anambra State, 1964; Christ the King’s College, CKC, Onitsha, 1967; College of Immaculate Conception, Enugu, 1970-1972; Government College, Ugheli, 1972; University of Nigeria Nsukka, 1973-1977; Nigeria Law School, Lagos, 1977-1978; London School of Economics and Political Science, 1979-1980. He was appointed research fellow, Law and Intelligence Studies, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, 1981-1982, and currently, the principal partner, Olisa Agbakoba and associates. Agbakoba became the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, in 1999.

Pius Obanya, educationist, civil servant, 76, May 29. Born in Jos, Plateau State, he was educated at the University of Ibadan. Obanya was appointed senior lecturer and later professor of education, University of Ibadan. He was director, Institute of Education, Lagos State University, 1984-1985; programme director, education, World Teaching Profession, WCOTP, Morgues, Switzerland, 1986-1988. He was also assistant director, UNESCO, Regional Office for Education in Africa, Dakar, Senegal.

Daniel Iyorwashima Amoh, banker, 66, June 1. Born in Tsambe, Vandekiya, Benue State, he studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Ibadan. He was tax clerk, ministry of finance, Benue State; assistant managing director, Federal Mortgage Finance Limited, Abuja. Amoh is a member, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN.

Bola Olaosebikan, medical doctor, writer and publisher, Health Care, Nigeria’s first health magazine, 58, June 2. Born in Offa, Kwara State, he was educated at Mark’s Primary School, Offa, 1970-1973; Kwara State College of Technology, 1974-1976; College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, 1976-1981; where he graduated with MBBS degree. He was the national assistant secretary-general of the Nigeria Medical Association in 1985; board member, Lagos State Hospital Management Board and former commissioner for health in Kwara State. Olaosebikan founded Health Care magazine in 1986, and runs Sunrise Clinic based in Lagos. He was appointed commissioner for environment and tourism in August 2003, in Kwara State. He holds the traditional titles of Asoju Oba of Imota in Lagos, and Babaewe of Offa in Kwara State.
