Timipre Sylva, former governor of Bayelsa State, 49, July 7. Born in Okpoma, Brass local government area of Bayelsa State, he was educated at St Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Okpoma, Bayelsa State; Ajeromi Ifelodun Central School, Lagos; Government Secondary School, Twon Brass, and University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He was executive secretary, National Minority Business Council; member, Old Rivers State House of Assembly, 1991-1992; political adviser to Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, former governor of Bayelsa State. He was elected governor of the state in 2007 and failed re-election in 2012.

Thomas Aeze Adaba, administrator, and former director-general, National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, 72, July 2. Born in Okene, Kogi State, he was educated at Christ the King Catholic School, Okene, Kogi State, 1947-1955; Ohio University, Athens, USA, 1969-1971; Indiana University, Bloomington, USA, 1978-1979; University of Jos, 1986-1989. Adaba became a teacher at Catholic School, Okene, 1961-1962; lecturer, Ahnadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, 1969-1974. He was head of presentation and training, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA,Jos, 1974-1977; controller/manager programmes, 1977-1980; assistant director, programmes, NTA, 1989-1990; general manager, NTA, Makurdi, Benue State, 1990-1991. He was appointed director-general, NBC, 1992. Adaba was a recipient of John F Kennedy Graduate Programme Awards, 1991.

John Momoh, administrator and broadcaster, 56, July 1. Born in Lagos, he was educated at Thompson Foundation/Centre for Journalism Studies and the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK, and University of Lagos, 1988-1990. Momoh started his career as antiquities assistant, National Museums and Monuments, Lagos, 1975; newsreader/ announcer, Ogun State Radio, 1977-1979; announcer/presenter, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA; newscaster, Voice of Nigeria, VON, 1979-1982; reporter/newscaster, NTA, 1982-1992. Momoh became the managing director of Channels Incorporated Limited, Lagos, after resigning from the NTA in 1992. Momoh is also a recipient of the Nigeria Union of Journalism, NUJ Newscaster of the Year, 1991.

Onyechi

Sam Azoka Onyechi, chief executive officer, Inspection and Tests Nigeria Limited, ITL, 50, July 4. Born in Ogidi, Anambra State, he was educated at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English. He founded ITL Training and Certification Limited, a specialist training school working in collaboration with The Welding Institute of UK, TWI, to train and certify Nigerians in welding inspection and non-destructive testing for the oil and gas industry. He is also a playwright and poet. His latest book of poems published in the United States titled: Miasma, is a satire of wasted opportunities in Nigeria arising from unbridled greed and leadership myopia.

Christian Ifeanyichukwu Adimorah, banker and administrator, 73, July 2. Born in Adazi-Enu, Anaocha, Anambra State, he was educated at St Philips’ Primary School, Sapele, Delta State, 1948-1949; CMS Primary School, Burutu, Delta State, 1949-1955; CMS Central School, Onitsha, 1956-1960; College of Technology, Enugu, now Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu, 1962-1964; Manchester Business School, 1982; New York Institute of Finance, 1986. Adimorah was appointed, bills/credit manager, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Onitsha branch, 1972-1974, and managing director, First Bank Nigeria, FBN, 1998.
