Born in Langtang, Plateau State, he was educated in England, India, the United States of America as well as the Command and Staff College, Jaji, Nigeria. He was military governor of old Bendel State from 1984-1985; minister of transport from 1985-1986 and quartermaster-general, Nigerian Army headquarters, Lagos. Useni was the founding national chairman, Democratic People’s Party, DPP, was the FCT minister from 1993-1998 before he retired after 41 years of service in the Nigerian army.
Oluwatobi Oyefeso, lecturer, technocrat and administrator, 54, February 20. Born in Isara Remo in Remo North local government area of Ogun State, and educated at Ogun State College of Education, Ijebu-Ode, 1980-1983; Polytechnic of North London, London, 1986-1989; Brunnel University of West London, Oxbridge, UK, 1989-1990; University of Greenwich, London, 1999-2000; University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland, 2000-2003 for a PhD in Finance. At various times between 1990 and 1999, Oyefeso worked as senior management accountant, financial operations manager, economic analyst, and since 2003, as a senior lecturer in Finance at the Bristol Business School of the University of West England in Bristol and the Thames Valley University in London before his appointment in January 2008 as the managing director of Nigerian Capital Market Institute, a subsidiary of the Securities & Exchange Commission. He has been a member of the National Technical Working Group Vision 20-2020 and Ministerial Task Force on Sovereign Wealth Fund.
Jimoh Ibrahim, lawyer and businessman, 46, February 24. He was born in Igbotako, Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State. He studied at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State; Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and Harvad Business School, United States of America. Ibrahim is the managing director of Global Fleet Group of Companies and publisher, National Mirror newspapers, Newswatch magazine and Newswatch dailies.
Simeon Afolabi, senior pastor of Firstlove Assembly, Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, 51, February 22. Born at Ipee in Oyun local government area of Kwara State, Afolabi attended Kwara State College of Technology [now Kwara Polytechnic], Ilorin. He gained admission into the University of Ibadan in 1980 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1985 and a Masters degree in the same discipline in 1987. Afolabi became a staff of Living Faith World Outreach Centre, where he served in various capacities for 10years before founding Firstlove Assembly in 1998.
Udoma Udo Udoma, lawyer, and politician, 59, February 26. Born in Aba, Abia State, he was educated at King’s College, Lagos, 1966-1972; Oxford University, England, 1973-1977; Nigerian Law School, 1977-1978. He became a lecturer in law, University of Lagos, 1978-1980; senior partner, Udo Udoma and Bello Osagie Law Firm in Lagos. Udoma was appointed special adviser to the minister of petroleum resources, 1993-1994 and director, Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG, in February 2010, as chairman of the governing board of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He was elected a senator representing Akwa Ibom South senatorial zone at the National Assembly, 1999-2007.
Appointed
Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, as registrar, University of Ilorin, Kwara State. Until his recent appointment at the 136th meeting of the university council, Obafemi who will take over the position in April, was the deputy registrar, Academic Support Services, of the university. Obafemi takes over from Olufunke Oyeyemi whose tenure will expire soon. Obafemi, who joined the service of the university of Ilorin in 1981 as an assistant registrar, is a 1977 graduate of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management in Nigeria, among several other professional bodies.
