Borno Emirate honours Minister of Health

IN appreciation of his commitment in the provision of healthcare services to the people of Borno State, Prof. Isaac Adewole, minister of health, has been conferred with a traditional title: Shettima of Borno by Abubakar Umar Garbai El Kanemi, traditional ruler of Borno.

The letter conveying the traditional title was presented to the minister by the Borno State Commissioner of Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Usman Zanna and the commissioner of Health, Haruna Mshelia in Abuja.

At the event, the commissioner for Health said that the conferment of the title on the minister was equally approved by the executive governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima.

The title “Shettima Nulefaye” which means “Commander of Health” was conferred on the minister in recognition of his love for the wellbeing of the people of Borno state,a state ravaged by insurgency .

“This conferment is in recognition of your meritorious healthcare delivery service and display of professional competence in the implementation of the Nation’s healthcare programmes especially by improving immunization programmes, eradication of polio and other diseases across the Federal Republic of Nigeria” the letter read.

Mshelia said that from the inception of insurgency in Borno State and the North East in general, the Hon. Minister of Health had visited the State more than five times, an indication that the Minister has love and passion for improving the healthcare system in Borno State.

He explained that the Health and Nutrition Emergency Response programme coordinated by the Ministry had greatly improved the health and nutrition indices of the people of the state.

Responding, Prof. Adewole commended President Muhammadu Buhari for given him the platform to provide healthcare support to the people of North-East region where most of their healthcare facilities were destroyed by Insurgency.

Prof. Adewole also thanked Governor Shettima and the Shehu of Borno for considering him worthy of a traditional title in Borno State.

“I must thank the Executive   Governor of Borno State and the Shehu of Borno for given me this traditional title; I consider it not as my achievement but as that of the entire Federal Ministry of Health.  It would serve as an additional impetus for me to work harder”.
