THE Borno Task Force for the construction of 500 housing units in the Jimtilo area of Maiduguri has given contractors handling the project one week to return to the site or face revocation.
Secretary of the task force, Alhaji Mohammed Abdu, gave the warning in a statement issued on Monday in Maiduguri.
He expressed the disappointment of the task force, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, with the level of work done on the project, expected to cost the state government N5 billion.
Abdu said that the contract for the project was awarded in January 2020, with an N1.6 billion mobilization fee already paid to the contractors.
He said that any contractor that failed to resume work on the project would not only have his contract terminated but would also be made to refund the money collected.
In another development, the Deputy Governor has visited Ajiri village in the Mafa council area to sympathize with the villagers over the Boko Haram attack that claimed six lives.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kadafur is now the acting governor of the state, following the transmission of power to him by Gov. Babagana Zulum who is on a 21-day annual leave.
During the Monday visit, the acting governor directed the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement to renovate all the affected houses.
He later addressed security personnel, including hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in the area, on the need to be more alert to checkmate further attacks. (NAN)
