Organised by the Kenneth Kaunda Children of Africa Foundation, the award was conferred on the Sanusi by an African elder statesman, Kenneth Kaunda, former president of Zambia. This award is coming barely six months after he was crowned the Central Bank Governor of the Year by the African Banker Awards 2013 in Marakech, Morocco, on May 29.

At that ceremony, an elated Sanusi had told Realnews that even though the award was an endorsement of his reforms in the banking sector, it would not make him to change his mind to seek another tenure in office.  “This job takes a lot out of one. To stay in it for 10 years will be killing. We have achieved everything we have set out to do. Nigerians helped. And we would not have done it differently. I build on what I met. The next person coming should also continue from where I stopped,” he said.

According to him, the bank has fixed inflation, exchange rate and external reserve and has them where he wants them to be.
