A FEDERAL high court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, November 16, summoned Abubakar Malami, attorney general of the federation, to explain why its order granting Sambo Dasuki, a retired colonel and former national security adviser, permission to travel abroad for medical treatment was ignored.

At the resumed hearing in the case, Tayo Abidogu, counsel to Malami, asked the court to give more time to his client, explaining that the AGF was still new in office and would need to be briefed about the developments.

Abidogun said that the AGF had a high degree of respect for the rule of law, and that the court should give them time to be briefed properly on the matter.

Joseph Daudu, counsel to Dasuki, however, said he had no objection to the plea for time, but requested that the said time be of considerable length.

The request for the court to grant Malami two weeks was, however, not granted as Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the federal high court, who presided, adjourned the case until Monday, November 23 for hearing.

Justice Ademola had on Friday, November 13, reacted angrily to the siege on Dasuki’s house despite an earlier ruling he gave permitting the former NSA to travel abroad for medical treatment.

“My own orders will not be flouted,” Ademola said on Friday, while re-iterating his stance that Dasuki should be allowed to travel for the required medical treatment.

The judge, who had earlier instructed the AGF to be present at the court for Monday’s hearing, held that the matter would require Malami’s presence to continue.
