–

A FEDERAL high court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Monday March 14, remanded Yunusa Dahiru, aka Yunusa Yellow, the alleged abductor of 14-year-old Ese Oruru, in prison custody. Justice H.A Ngajiwa, trial judge, gave the order that Dahiru should be returned to a Bayelsa remand facility pending the determination of his bail application.

The judge’s order followed the inability of both defence and prosecution teams in the case to cite authorities in their arguments before the court.

Ngajiwa held that the application for bail could not be fully heard since counsel to both parties failed to furnish the court with all authorities cited in their cases as directed by the court, especially whenever the lawyers’ processes are to be adopted.

Dahiru alleged abducted Oruru from Bayelsa State and took her to Kano last August before being rescued early this month. The accused who appeared in court on March 8, 2016 charged with abduction, kidnapping, unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual exploitation, pleaded not guilty.

Kenneth Dika is leading the prosecution team while Kayode Olaosebikan is the counsel for the accused. Olaosebikan is supported by four other counsels.
