Jail Break: Prisons Suspends 14 Officials

THE Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board has suspended four senior officers while Ja’afaru Ahmed, comptroller-general, CG, of Prisons, in his capacity, also approved the suspension of 10 junior personnel of the prison.

The suspension followed the jail break and escape of Solomon Amodu and Maxwell Ajukwu, two inmates standing trial for culpable homicide from lawful custody in Kuje Medium Security Prison on June 24.

Francis Enobore, Prisons Service Public Relations Officer, n a statement ssued on Monday in Abuja listed the affected officers as DCP Musa Tanko, officer in-charge of Kuje Prisons, SIP Buhari Dogo; PIPs Stephen Edogbanya; Patrick Teru; IPs Usman Peter and Dennis Makum.

The others are IP Fassan Akin; SPAs Daka  James; Adamu Luka; SPA Zakari Yunasa ; PAs Asnamal Samuel, Ejegwa Patrick, Isah Ibrahim and Ngede  Salifu

“The suspension was sequel to the outcome of the preliminary investigation into the incident and in consonance with Prisons Service Rules 030406 (2008) Revised Version; the officers were suspended from duty to allow for unhindered trial process.

“The commissioned officers among them are to be served with letters of query while the junior staff will be given Form 96 (Charge Sheet ) to explain their role in the unfortunate saga,” the statement said.

The Prison Service which is collaborating with sisters security agencies to recapture the fugitives has also tightened security measures in prison formations nationwide to forestall another jailbreak incident.

The CG has solicited the cooperation of members of the public to volunteer useful information that could assist in the re-arrest of the fugitives, the statement said.
