Saraki Calls for Thorough Investigation of Collapsed Church Building

BUKOLA Saraki, Senate president, has called for “urgent and thorough investigation” to determine the remote and immediate causes of the church building collapse in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Several persons were killed, while others sustained various degree of injuries when the roof and the iron beams in the building housing Reigners Bible Church, Uyo, collapsed on Saturday, December 10, during a church ceremony. The church building was still under construction before it collapsed.

The police in the state said 27 persons died, while 37 sustained injuries.

“It is so sad that this incident claimed precious lives of innocent worshippers and injured scores of others,” Saraki said in a statement released on Sunday, December 11, by Yusuph Olaniyonu. his spokesman.

“This was certainly an avoidable occurrence, the more reason relevant state and federal authorities should urgently launch an investigation to unravel the mechanical, environmental and human factors responsible for the incident.

“I believe such investigation, if sincerely done, will help us to guide against this unnecessary waste of lives, injuries and damage to property in the future,” Saraki said.

The senate president prayed for speedy recovery for those who were still receiving medical attention in the hospitals, and also condoled with Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Christian community in the state.
