THE Executive Assistant, Marine Development to Governor of Delta State, Ambassador Karo Ekewenu has called on members of Fulani Herdsmen, Boko Haram, MASSOB and Niger Delta militants to maintain peace as the world celebrate International World Peace Day today 21st September.

Ekewenu who is also an ambassador to the United Nations on Sustainable Development Goals appealed to the various aggrieved groups in the country to use the opportunity of the World Peace Day to seize fire and embrace dialogue. He said, “the Federal Government should on her part adopt dialogue approach and jettison military approach in dealing with all aggrieved groups in the country.”

He noted, “each year the, International Day of Peace is observed around the world on every 21st September, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly and devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples”. He revealed that since the Day’s theme for 2016 is ‘The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace’, let’s turn hatred into respect, bigotry into understanding, and ignorance into knowledge as we try to work together to ensure the very root causes of conflict, poverty, marginalization and greed giving way to development and justice and we should emphasize the importance of peace and how we can achieve more through dialogue and sacrifice. – Vanguard
