The Federal Conteoller of Works in Kogi, Mr Jimoh Kajogbola has appealed to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to provide a 70-ton towing vehicle along the Murtala Muhammed Bridge, Jamata, for removal of broken down vehicles.

Kajogbola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lokoja that the appeal had become necessary as frequent breakdown of articulated vehicles on the bridge was causing traffic gridlocks on the Lokoja to Abuja road.

He said the towing vehicle should remain on the bridge for the period that the ongoing rehabilitation on the bridge would last.

According to him, the bridge, which is currently under rehabilitatinon, has only one functional two-lane carriageway, and any breakdown of articulated  vehicle results in gridlock.

“We are appealing to the Corps Marshall to grant approval for the release of the 70-ton towing vehicle, which is currently in Port-Harcourt.,” he pleaded.

The controller appealed to motorists to be patient, resist the temptation to drive against the traffic, and keep their vehicles in good shape to avoid a breakdown. (NAN)
