British Prime Minister Theresa May’s resignation takes effect June 7, when a new leader will emerge

THERESA May, British prime minister, has announced that her resignation from office will take effect from June 7, to allow another person to lead the country.

The prime minister in her speech today said she tried all she could to lead the country to Brexit but unfortunately she profoundly regret she did not succeed.

“I have done everything I can to deliver Brexit. Sadly, I have not been able to do so I tried three times… It is in the best interest of the country for a new prime minister to lead that effort,” May said in a moving speech on Friday, May 24, in London.

She is the second female prime minister to lead Britain and she was very emotional in announcement speech.

Her tenure has been defined by struggle, failure and blunders since the country signed on Brexit.

Realnews reports Britain will have a new prime minister by July. Britain voted to exit the European Union in 2015. A new leader will continue from where May stopped to conclude the Brexit process.

Born October 1, 1956, May became a British politician serving as prime minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2016. She was first elected member of parliament, MP, for Maidenhead in 1997, and served as Home Secretary from 2010 to 2016.
