President Muhammadu Buhari shows leadership, locks out ministers who were late for the Wednesday, January 13 federal executive meeting
THE action President Muhammadu Buhari took on Wednesday, January 13, by locking out cabinet members who arrived late for the federal cabinet meeting must serve as a silent warning to all unruly recalcitrant civil and public servants who are habitual latecomers or absentee workers. After the Christmas holidays some of the civil servants failed to resume work while they were not on leave due to indicipline. The federal government threatened action but noting has been noticeably done since then.
Perhaps to curb such acts of indiscipline, the President must have decided to clean the house by making example of the latecomers among his cabinet members. That was why on Wednesday January 13, President Buhari who arrived the venue of the federal executive council meeting at exactly 9.50am, ahead of Vice President Yemi Obasanjo met only 19 of the 36 ministers in the chamber. The meeting was supposed to start by 10am.
Immediately he arrived, the President called for the rendition of the National Anthem and also asked two cabinet members to say the Christian and Muslim prayer.
Osinbajo, who usually arrive the Council Chamber with the president, came after the meeting had started and was smuggled in through the tea room.
At the end of the meeting, Lai Mohammed, minister of information, and Babatunde Fashola, power, works and housing disclosed that the council approved $200 million World Bank loan for Lagos State.
According to them, it was part of a $600 million loan granted by World Bank for roads and other infrastructural development projects in the state.
They explained that the first batch of $200 million was approved in 2010, while subsequent batches were allegedly delayed by the last administration for political reasons. The new approval will allow Lagos State to complete its very ambitious projects.
