OYO State Government has began payment of N325 million compensation to owners of properties acquired for the construction of two bus terminals at Iwo Road interchange, Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner for Public Works, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin, had presented cheques to some of the property owners on Wednesday, at the state Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan.

Sangodoyin said that 227 affected property owners, who have no litigation on their properties, would benefit from the gesture.

According to him, the state government is constructing two bus terminals at Iwo Road and these terminals occupied some private properties.

“And, we are paying their compensation amounting to N325 million,” the commissioner said.

Sangodoyin further explained that due process was followed before arriving at the amounts to be paid to the respective owners.

He said that the three ministries- the Ministries are Lands and Survey, Justice and Public Works- were in charge of valuation of the properties.

“They have done valuation of the properties base on their respective professional experiences,” Sangodoyin said.

He said that Gov. Seyi Makinde had rebuilt a Mosque demonished as a result of the bus terminals construction, and that the governor had paid N50 million to owner of the affected church building.

Two of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Jimoh Amodu and Mrs Abiola Adekoya, appreciated the state government for fulfilling its promise on the issue of compensation.(NAN)
