The 2017 budget document has been declared missing following a police raid of Senator Danjuma Goje’s house during which 18 files, laptop and money were recovered

THE passage of the 2017 national budget may be delayed further with the budget document allegedly missing following a police raid of Senator Danjuma Goje’s house.

The Senator told the Senate on Wednesday that the police raided his house on April 20, carting away the budget document including 18 files and his laptop, adding that Nigerians should blame the police and not the Senate for the delay in passing the budget. But the Nigeria Police has denied being in possession of the budget document.

Insisting, Goje, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, said processes on the 2017 budget has been truncated since the policemen invaded his house and took the documents, apologising to the Senate and Nigerians for the delay in the passage of the budget.

Responding, Bukola Saraki, Nigerian Senate president, expressed concern over the missing documents and set up an adhoc committee which was given four weeks investigate and present its report to the Senate.

However, the Nigeria Police Force has said that 2017 budget was not part of the seized items from the Senator’s house. Ibrahim Idris, inspector general of police, was at the Senate on Wednesday to explain to the senate what transpired during the raid.

The police later issued a state on Thursday morning stating that the recovered money, laptop and 18 files from Goje’s house but not the national budget, imploring the public not to be misled by the senator’s allegation.
