GOOGLE has commenced offering of free backups for WhatsApp users with immediate effect, reports ITREALMS.

This is coming as the Google Drive storage quota for such WhatsApp backups no longer counts against anyone using Google mail (gmail).

ITREALMS gathered that this follows latest agreement between WhatsApp and Google, however, any “WhatsApp backups that have not been updated in more than a year will automatically be removed from storage.”

This policy, ITREALMS equally gathered, will go into effect for all users on November 12, 2018 though some users may see the quota benefits earlier.

“To avoid the loss of any backups, we recommend that people manually back up WhatsApp before November 12, 2018,” Google Drive Team said.

In addition, they recommended some actions including that account users confirm that their current WhatsApp client is backed up and if they wish to refresh any existing backups, “please manually back up your WhatsApp client before October 30, 2018.” – ITREAMS
