EMEKA Asoanya, Onitsha South Transition Committee chairman, has urged Due Process Enforcement and Compliance Unit on Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, to be diligent in the discharge of their duties.

Asoanya said this at his office in Fegge, Onitsha when the IGR Enforcement Unit of Anambra State visited him. The unit plans to commence work in Onitsha this week.

The chairman also enjoined them to shun bribery and corruption in order to check illegal revenue collection.

He promised to support the team with security backing to ensure trouble-free exercise.

However, Innocent Offordile, chairman, Due Process, said Governor Willie Obiano formed the team, following discovery that hoodlums were high jacking IGR collection in the state.

“They were also unleashing hardships on the masses in the process.’’

He noted that their main duty was fishing out illegal revenue collectors and not to collect revenues.

“They are also to ensure compliance by contractors, collecting revenues on behalf of government.’’

Offordile, then, emphasised their readiness to work as his team would commence work this week in the area.

All 21 local government areas would be covered during the course of the exercise.

CSP Garba Abba, a Police representative of Onitsha Area Command, pledged his support toward achieving success in the exercise.

Meanwhile, Solomon Odeorole, NDLEA spokesman, present at the occasion asked them to fight corruption to a standstill.

Charles Mogbe, assistant chairman, Due Process, thanked the council chairman for his reception of the team.
