CONTRARY to the belief that a person can die from receiving a phone call from a strange number, Airtel and MTN, both telecommunication service providers in Nigeria have declared that “killer numbers” do not exist in any network operated in the country.

If a person dies after receiving a phone call, it might as a result of a problem the person is suffering from, or any other circumstance but not because he/she received the phone call from any number, Odunayo Sanya, representative of MTN Nigeria, said at the 81st telecoms consumer parliament of the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, held on Thursday at the Eko Club in Surulere, Lagos.

Sanya asked Realnews after the programme, “Have you seen anybody die because they received a phone call before? These are just myths that fly around. People don’t die from receiving a killer number. If anyone dies, it might be because he/she suffered a problem or something else.

“For us at MTN, and other service providers, killer numbers don’t exist. We don’t have any killer number in our network.”

Responding to complaints of the public of poor service in the southern part of Nigeria, Globacom assured that they are working on improving their services in that part of the country.
