THE Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, on Thursday, February 31, held its 46th consumer town hall meeting, which was, expectedly, an interactive session.

The meeting, which took place at the Hakimi Alimi Conference Hall, Mokwa, Niger State, brought together telecommunications consumers, operators and the regulator, NCC, with a view to proffering solutions to different issues affecting the consumer.

The event is one of the initiatives of the NCC to bring together telecoms stakeholders in the rural areas, to discuss, proffer solutions to consumer related issues and ensure consumers have value for money through effective service delivery.

Often times, consumers allege that network service providers are taking advantage of their (consumers’) ignorance to defraud them by way of excess charges, imposition of subscriptions with cost implications among other things.

While NCC is not ruling out the possibility of some of the alleged malpractices going on, it believes the enlightenment gatherings like town hall meetings can provide, will go a long way in making the consumers feel safer.

The NCC is the independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria. It was created under Decree number 75 by the then Federal Military Government of Nigeria on November 24, 1992.
