THE Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Thursday, February 21, inaugurated an interdepartmental working group to produce the commission’s position on the national response to electronic financial frauds in telecoms sector in Nigeria.

Sunday Dare, NCC’s executive commissioner for Stakeholder Management, while inaugurating the Group, urged its members to articulate concrete responses to combat the use of telecoms platforms to commit financial frauds.

Of late the commission has redoubled its efforts at reducing the rate at which users of telecom platforms are at the same time made vulnerable to criminal minded individuals

On January 29, the NCC hosted a stakeholders’ forum on “Financial Fraud using Telecoms Platforms” at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. The event was organised as a response to the several public complaints on the rising cases of financial fraud facilitated by the use of telecom platforms.

It was an avenue for NCC to, among other things, express its determination to seek more initiatives aimed at not only creating greater awareness but also addressing the challenges.
