EMOTION ran high Thursday as no fewer than 12 management staff bade good bye to the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, in retirement. They form bulk of the staff who accepted the offer of ‘take and go’ voluntary retirement by the management.

It was gathered that in order to trim the top management staff which was considered top-heavy by the Board, the NCC management offered a pathway to voluntary retirement with handsome monetary benefits.

This is an acceptable practice in most public agencies and the private sector especially for organisations wishing to run lean and mean and cut personnel cost in the long run.

The management of the commission Thursday began the send forth process for the 12 management staff who will exit the commission effective from April 1, 2019 when they will commence their terminal leave.

Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of NCC noted at the special valedictory executive management session to herald another senior management meeting coming up Friday that the staff “will be leaving a vacuum difficult to fill”. He advised the outgoing retirees that “whether in service or not, they should find ways to contribute to our communities”. Several Executive Management staff amplified EVC’ voice and wished all the outgoing staff best wishes.

Director Public Affairs, Nnamdi Nwokike, who responded on behalf of his fellow retirees, said that: “we are leaving the work in capable hands who will do better than how we met and left it”. He Thanked the EVC, colleagues as well as all staff of the commission for their best wishes.

Those affected include Nnamdi Nwokike, Director Public Affairs; Abubakar Kolawole Yakubu, Director Policy, Competition and Economic Analysis; Bashir Ayodeji Idris, Head Legislative and Government Relations; Somieari Jumbo, Deputy Director Spectrum Administration; Dr. Femi Atoyebi, Head Strategy Management; Kehinde Oladipo, Head Human Capital; Inatimi Spiff, Head Process Administration; Okoh Aihe, outgoing Head Public Relations; Austin Odo, Head Performance Management; Chinelo Ofomata, Assistant Director Legal Services; Tenimu Bawa, outgoing Assistant Director Research and Development; and Dr. Kafilu Danbatta, Head Next Generation Technologies and Standardization.
