Political parties in Nigeria are now free to resume lobbying of voters as the Independent national Electoral Commission has lifted its ban on campaigns
FESTUS Okoye, national commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and chairman, Committee on Information and Voter Education, has announced the lifting of ban political campaigns.
A statement he released on Monday said that the commission has lifted the ban till Thursday, February 21.
Prior to the lifting of the ban the two major political parties – the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had insisted that they would reopen their various political campaigns as stipulated in section 99 sub section 1 of the electoral Act.
Also, the Coalition of United Political Parties had said that it will resume nation wide campaign to get Nigerians to turn out enmasse to vote for its candidate.
