TRADERS at the Science and Technology Expo made brisk sales at the week-long expo as they commended the initiative of organisers for creating special locations of them.

Some of the traders, who displayed their wares at the special tents allocated to them outside the expo venue, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)on Friday in Abuja that coming to the expo had helped to boost their businesses.

The expo with the theme: “Fast-tracking Sustainable Development through Science and Technology’’ is organised by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

Mr Simon Uchendu, a trade who sells male outfits said he had always been a regular vendor at the expo, adding that as usual he recorded bumper sales during this expo.

According to Uchendu, the Federal Government can ensure that locally made goods are well promoted starting from patronage by government organisations.

“Thank God for this expo. It is the time of the year I always look out for because of increased sales.

“I will like a situation where the government enforces the law of people buying our indigenous products, which the government agencies are meant to be at the forefront of that campaign.”

Bimbo Akinyomi, a food vendor commended the level of patronage she recorded.

“You know around this place there are no restaurants, so people will definitely get hungry for food.

“On a daily basis, the foods I prepare in this place always finish and we have to cook some fresh ones again to meet the demands of our customers.

“The expo is a good platform to encourage businesses and it means that government can also do something that will promote the commercialisation of our indigenous products,” she said.

Haruna Ahmed, a jewellery seller said some people, who did not have the time to visit markets to buy their jewelleries would always did that in this expo ground.

“And such people really patronised me,’’ he said.

Ms Sarah Fredrick, who sells women clothes said the expo was better organised compared to last year’s edition.

According to Fredrick, exhibitors, vendors were settled in their tents from the beginning of the expo which avails them time to get acquainted with activities on the expo ground.

Miss Ijeoma Dumaka, a shoe seller said she wished the expo would last for one month, adding that the sales she made in a day at the expo could not be compared to what she would make in her shop in one week.

Dumaka expressed delight that the expo created the opportunity for her to meet prominent people, innovators, and to witness lots of side attractions.

NAN reports that the objectives of the expo include promotion of Research and Development (R&D) activities, commercialising R & D results and products and services of research in tertiary institutions.

It also enables inventors/innovators and manufacturing sector to showcase their achievements and breakthroughs in the science, technology, innovators. (NAN)
