Commercial activities have yet to pick up fully in Jos and Bukuru, Plateau, after the Yuletide break, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

A NAN correspondent monitoring socio-economic activities in the state capital reports on Wednesday that only few traders and hawkers were seen conducting their businesses.

The report said that petty traders and hawkers along Murtala Mohammed Way and at the Old Bukuru Park were seen hustling and bustling.

The report also said that most shops around the Plateau Riders Park and Terminus Market have yet to reopen for normal businesses.

Mr Bello Yahaya, a foodstuff dealer at the Bukuru Market, told NAN that business activities had slowed down because of the Yuletide season.

Yahaya noted that most of his customers travelled out of the state to celebrate with their loved ones.

Similarly, the State and Federal Secretariats have not yet recorded large turnout of workers, with only few seen standing in groups exchanging pleasantries.

Mrs Tina Pam, a civil servant at the state secretariat, told NAN that she was well rested during the public holiday, adding that she is glad to resume work and put in her best.

On his part, Mr Timothy Yankat, a civil servant at the federal secretariat, told NAN he had resolved to be proactive and productive in the discharge of his responsibilities in 2019.

In his own contribution, a federal civil servant who preferred anonymity told NAN that many of his colleagues failed to resume they were anticipating that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) would call out workers on strike.

The organised has threatened an indefinite nationwide industrial action to press home their demand for new minimum wage of N30,000 monthly. (NAN)
