Caregiver in court for allegedly stealing N500,000 from his patient

A 41-year-old caregiver, Adeyinka Daramola, who allegedly stole N500,000 from the account of his patient, on Tuesday, appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendant, who resides at Ogba area, Lagos, is charged with theft.

Daramola, however, denied committing the offence

The prosecution counsel, Insp.Adegoke Philip, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in November, 2019.

He said that the defendant, who was employed to take care of Mr Bashiru Adeniyi, absconded with his patient’s money.

“The defendant was employed by the complainant’s children to take care of their sick father.

“While taking care of the complainant, the defendant stole Adeniyi’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) pin number and withdrew N500,000

“He absconded but was eventually arrested, ” the prosecutor said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence violates section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The section stipulates seven years’ imprisonment for stealing from employer

Magistrate O.A Akokhia, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum. Akokhia adjourned the case until Feb. 6 for mention. (NAN)
