The Technical Director of the Channels TV Track and Field Classics, Henry Amike, said on Friday in Lagos that all was set to hold the 2nd Channels U-18 Athletics Classics.

Amike, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the second edition would be an improvement on the first edition.

He said the event would hold from Nov. 13 to Nov. 14 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

“The second edition of the Channels U-18 Athletics Classics is set to hold.

“Events to feature in the competition include 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m races.

“Also the 4X100 and 4X400 relay races, alongside long jump, high jump and shot put will be featured,” he said.

Amike told NAN that the aim of the organisation was to scout, discover and develop young talents that were still in the secondary school system.

He said that schools had shown interest in the competition and some had begun training for their representatives.

“The overall aim of the competition is to scout, discover and develop talents that abound in our secondary schools.

“About 49 secondary schools took part in last year’ inaugural championships which recorded some outstanding results.

“Over 60 schools have signified interest in being part of this year’ edition, as some schools have already started preparations for the Nov. 13 to Nov. 14 Classics.

“Invited secondary school students from both the private and public sectors across the six (6) districts of Lagos State are expected to attend.

“Athletes who are secondary school students and are below 18 years are expected to take part in the two-day-meet,” he said. (NAN)
