China’s gold, silver jewelry purchase grows in May
General News
CHINA’S consumption of gold and silver jewelry continued to expand in May amid the steady recovery of the domestic market.
The National Bureau of Statistics data on Thursday said that last month, the aggregate retail sales of gold and silver jewelry increased by 31.5 per cent year on year to 26.2 billion yuan (about 4.07 billion U.S. dollars).
The growth pace came following an 83.2 per cent surge in March and a 48.3 per cent rise in April, due to a low base in the same period last year.
In May, China’s retail sales of consumer goods went up 12.4 per cent year on year, and were 9.3 per cent higher from the same month of 2019. (Xinhua/NAN)
