GHANA’S Electoral Commission says that its attention has been drawn to a voter’s ID card circulating on social media bearing the name Abukari Osumanu with the date of birth, 1702.

The EC said that it had traced the said card to the polling station with the code M133502 in Tamale and our Regional Director has confirmed that, the problem was a typo. The card has since been corrected and re-issued to the applicant. Please find attached

The Commission said in a statement that the practice at all registration centres for applicants to be provided with the typed-out forms to check and verify their details before the cards are finally issued.

“The Commission recognises that this may not work for all applicants, since not every applicant is literate.

“It is important to note that, the exhibition process which is held after the Registration Exercise will afford all voters the opportunity to correct errors on their biometric information.

“We wish to assure the general public that, the Commission has established internal mechanisms to address issues as and when they arise. We are determined that the voter’s experience at our registration centre is pleasant,”
