Continuous voter registration records 3,558,360 new registrants - INEC

THE weekly update on the continuous voters’ registration exercise released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday, October 18, showed that  3,558,360 people have so far registered in the ongoing online voter registration.

According to INEC, the figure reflects only fresh registrants.

A breakdown of the figures, which is also on the INEC website, also showed that Osun state is leading with 435,636 new registrants, followed by Delta, 261,195; Bayelsa, 237274; Edo, 234959; Kano, 189,846; Kogi, 142042; FCT, 127,032; Anambra, 124,439; Rivers, 116,977; Taraba, 106,585; Lagos, 106,052; Plateau, 101501; Kaduna, 96289; and Oyo, 92205.

Also, Kwara has 90,404, Akwa Ibom, 86768; Jigawa, 86512; Gombe, 84512; Bauchi, 77968; Sokoto, 77387; Cross River, 64706, and Ekiti, 61254.

Ondo recorded 60862 voter, Adamawa, 58678; Niger, 53555; Nasarawa, 52114; Zamfara, 51931; Ogun, 50722; Borno, 33055; Benue, 29546; Ebonyi, 29345; Imo, 28969; Enugu, 27927; Katsina, 24803; Kebbi, 21701; while Abia had 16245 registrants.

Also included in the report is the age distribution of new registrants, which showed that the youths within the age of 18 to 34 had the highest number with a total of 935,095 new registrants, followed by the middle age between 35 and 49 years with 251,456 registrants; then the elderly between the ages of 50 and 69 years with 107,571, while the old from 70 years and above have the least with 14,321 new registrants.
