THE China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria on Thursday donated 40,000 disposable surgical masks, 500 disposable medical protective suits, and one infra-red thermal imaging thermometer unit to the Nigeria Police.

Its President, Mr. Yeshui Jin, said in Abuja, that the donation was to strengthen the police in their efforts to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19.

Jin said COVID-19 was a major challenge across the world, adding that the Nigeria Police had contributed immensely toward the containment of the spread of the virus.

He said the protection of lives and property of citizens and foreigners by the police had become more difficult with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With COVID-19, the challenge of protecting lives and property has become more difficult, and so, this is the time for countries to show solidarity and support to each other.

“Where we are coming from, we are also fighting COVID-19; so, it is time for us to work and pull resources together to contain the spread of the pandemic.

“In view of the understanding, the China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria decided to donate 40,000 disposable surgical masks, 500 disposable medical protective suits and one infra-red thermal imaging thermometer unit to the police,” he said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the police, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba, commended the chamber for the donation.

Mba said the donation was in recognition of the strategic roles of the Nigerian Police in containing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

He said the donation would serve as a reminder to the public that police constitute part of the frontline forces combating COVID-19.

“While thanking you, we want to urge other well-meaning Nigerians and organisations across the world to emulate the China General Chamber of Commerce and support the Nigeria Police,” he said.

Mba pledged that the items would be judiciously utilised. (NAN)
