THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has faulted the announcement made by Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, on COVID-19 lockdown extension. Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the group, said the announcement was supposed to be made by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Kanu, in a statement released by Emma Powerful, media and publicity secretary, IPOB, said it was undemocratic for a mere political appointee to issue a directive to citizens, who cannot hold him accountable through the ballot box. “Last night I wrote in my penultimate post that an unelected, unaccountable Boss Mustapha made an announcement which Channels TV knew ought to have been made by Yemi Osinbajo the Vice President in the absence of a President.

“It is an abomination in a democracy for a mere political appointee to issue a directive to citizens, who cannot hold him accountable through the ballot box. This is Government 101. Channels TV knew this was not only wrong and democratically untenable, but it was also a subversion of the Constitution and will of the people,” he said.

Kanu commended the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for criticizing the federal government for using Mustapha to issue directives to Nigerian citizens. He also said that very soon, he would start charging the Nigerian government for receiving free education from his Facebook page.

“Good to see that Nigerians, her failed government and opposition come to this page to receive free education in history, civics, constitutional governance and democracy. Very soon I have to start charging them. This is how it will be in the future, Nigerians will troop to Biafraland to learn how to run a democratic government and we Biafrans would be glad to teach them for free because they are fellow Africans,” he said.
