Coronavirus Pandemic

The Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc has donated food items to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, to cushion the effect of COVID-19 outbreak on the members.

NB Plc’s Corporate Affairs Manager West, Mr. Tayo Adelaja, made the presentation at the NUJ Press Centre in Ibadan on Friday.

The items presented to the union were rice, garri, vegetable oil, semolina flour, noodles, Maltina drinks, washing soap, and hand sanitiser.

Adelaja said that the visit was part of the organisation’s efforts to positively reach out to its immediate communities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is obvious that the whole world is challenged by the outbreak of coronavirus. One major consequence is that a lot of people have lost their jobs and many are no longer being paid.

“A lot of things have gone wrong; we don’t even know how long it will take for normalcy to return to our society.

“It is on this note that we decided to reach out to our immediate community. We believe that the community around us should feel our impact,” he said.

The corporate affairs manager said the company was ready to support the union’s programmes and activities in the interest of societal development.

He called for closer relations between the company and the NUJ, saying “no establishment can actually do well without the media.”

“We look forward to a very good working relationship with the NUJ. I can assure you that our relationship will be mutually beneficial,” he said.

In his response, the NUJ Chairman in the state, Mr Ademola Babalola, commended the company for the gesture and assured it of the union’s readiness for collaboration.

He urged the company to sustain its touch with the immediate communities as a way of building trust, loyalty, and patronage. (NAN)
