Coronavirus Pandemic
A Non-Governmental Organisation, Waives of Success Foundation, has distributed food items, medical consumables and sanitizers worth N15 million to communities in Kogi to check the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Mr Ocholi Yusuf, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, disclosed this during the distribution of the palliatives at Stephen Achema Handball Stadium, Idah, one of the venues in Kogi East Senatorial District, on Saturday.
Yusuf who had earlier in the week donated the sum of N1 million to the State Government to support the COVID-19 containment measures said communities in Ofu, Igalamela-Odolu, Ibaji and Idah Local Government Areas also benefit from the gesture.
He said the foundation was out not only to help prevent and curtail the spread of the virus but also to reduce the hardship occasioned by the partial lockdown, which according to him, was near total in the state.
The CEO said the Foundation, which started with the distribution of one million pieces of plastic sanitizers a fortnight ago, had distributed bags of rice, washing basins, hand gloves and face masks worth N10 million.
Yusuf said about N5 million cash was also doled out along with the items as palliatives to indigent members of various communities at designated centres in Ugwolawo, Ofu LGA; Ajaka, Igalamela-Odolu, Ejule-Ojebe in Ibaji and Stephen Achema Handball Court in Idah.
“This trying period occasioned by the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic demands the cooperation of all and sundry, especially the well-to-do individuals and organisations to compliment government’s containment efforts of the deadly disease,” said Yusuf.
He assured that the foundation would not relent in its humanitarian commitment to the less privileged in the society and vowed that it would continue to identify with the needy as the situation prevailed.
He praised government at all levels and other donors on their contributions towards the war against Coronavirus pandemic.
Responding, the Onu Uje of Uje, Ibaji, Chief John Egwemi, chairman of Ibaji Traditional Council, commended the CEO for his philanthropy, describing him as a worthy son of Igalaland who should be given higher responsibility.
Yusuf earlier visited the palaces of the Eje of Ofu, Chief James Abalaka; Eje and Etemahi Igalamela, Chief Abel Etuh and Achadu Attach in Idah to pay homage, distribute items and cash. (NAN)
