Coronavirus Pandemic

THE Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr. Abdullahi Candido, has assured residents of the area that the council’s secretariat is free from the coronavirus pandemic.

Candido gave the assurance while briefing newsmen on Monday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was COVID-19 scare at the council secretariat last week, when news of the test result of the council Secretary, Mrs. Abisola Abdullahi, came out positive.

The chairman, however, said that in spite of the incident, members of staff, residents, and visitors were welcomed to the council secretariat at all times.

“The area council is free and remains safe from COVID-19 after the council secretary had tested positive last week.

“This has made us, that is, myself and 22 other council officials who had a face-to-face interaction with her, to submit ourselves to NCDC for testing.

“The test results, which came out over the weekend, declared me, other council officials and political appointees negative.

“The council will, however, continue to observe all the COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines in order to ensure that members of staff and visitors to the council are safe,” he said.

Candido also encouraged the residents of the council to voluntarily submit themselves to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for testing, once they discovered they were having the symptoms of the disease.

He added that the council was collaborating with community leaders in the area council to identify individuals who had tested positive for the virus but decided to go into hiding.

According to the chairman, such measures will reduce the spread of the pandemic, as the area council was among the LGAs considered as the epicenters of the pandemic in the country. (NAN)
