THE Joint Technical Task Team in Nasarawa State has commended compliance by security personnel to ensure unhindered movement of foodstuff and agricultural produce at the borders between Nasarawa and Plateau states.

Mr Bola Longe, Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa state and Chairman of the team, on Friday expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance during a visit to border towns between the two states.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the team were drawn from the state Ministry of Agriculture, the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NUJ, NURTW, Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NATO) and farmers.

Longe, represented by Mr Juriko Jonathan, a senior Police officer, said the visit was to assess compliance with Federal Government’s directive on free and unhindered movement of livestock and agricultural produce in view of the interstates movement restriction.

He commended security personnel at Sabon-Gari Bakinkogi of Lafia, bordering Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau for adhering to the signal on unhindered passage of agricultural produce at the border.

He said the Police would not relent in sanctioning anyone found sabotaging government’s efforts to implement the directive on free movement of food and agricultural produce.

Dr Ofomata Ikechukwu, Coordinator of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nasarawa State, said the team would also visit the remaining five border communities.

Ikechukwu said the visit to Nasarawa border with Plateau  was the second, as the team had visited Nasarawa border with Benue on June 22.

“We will soon visit the border with Kaduna, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, to monitor compliance with the directive,” he said.

The coordinator added that the team’s mandate of ensuring unhindered transportation of foodstuff, livestock and other agriculture produce was to avert food crisis in the country. (NAN)
