Coronavirus Pandemic

ENUGU Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) on Friday began the enforcement of compulsory wearing of face masks by staff and customers in all its offices and facilities within its franchise areas.

The franchise area of the company covers the five South-East states, which are, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.

The firm’s Head of Communications, Mr Emeka Ezeh, said in a statement in Enugu, that wearing of face masks was in addition to other existing safety measures.

Ezeh said the other safety measures, which all must obey in its offices, were hand washing with soap under running water, use of alcohol-based hand sanitiser and compulsory non-contact temperature checks.

“EEDC urges its esteemed customers to always adhere strictly to the advice by World Health Organisation and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),’’ he said.

The EEDC spokesman urged its customers to pay their bills promptly for stable power supply because the company had obligations to the Market Operators (MO) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader (NBET), which must be fulfilled.

“We, therefore, wish to inform our customers that the energy bill for month of April is ready and currently being distributed.

“So, as from May 11, our team will embark on cash drive and disconnection of indebted customers.

“We urge all customers to settle their outstanding bills including any arrears resulting from our inability to move freely during the lockdown period,’’ he said. (NAN)
