NYSC distributes palliatives to orphanage, old people’s home in Ibadan

THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Oyo state on Friday distributed foodstuffs, toiletries, hand sanitizers, face masks, and water to an orphanage and an old people’s homes in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed are:  70 cartons of  Noodles, 6 six bags of rice, 500 face masks, cartons of hand sanitisers, salt, bottled water, and detergents.

Speaking at the event, the NYSC Coordinator in the state,  Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe,  said that the gesture was part of the scheme’s activities to mark the NYSC 47th anniversary.

NAN also reports that the scheme was established in 1973 by the Gen. Yakubu Gowon-led administration.

She added that it was also to impact positively on the lives of the vulnerable in such a trying time.

“We are only being grateful to God, the only way to appreciate God for keeping us thus far is by helping the needy, God is our banner and we pray to him to take us to greater heights.

“We want to be old too and live long, what you sow is what you reap, if you don’t give to others you won’t receive, the event is taking place simultaneously in all the states of the federation and the NYSC headquarters.

“We are reaching out to the orphanages and old people’s homes as well as the community in Egbeda,” she said.

Also speaking, the Visioner of Omisina Aged Home, Mrs. Modupe Adio, appreciated the NYSC for deeming it fit to remember the aged.

“We thank God for the person that started NYSC; it is indeed a nice programme, we pray that all of us will also be alive by the time they will celebrate their 50th anniversary,” she said.

Also, the Visioner of Jesus Kids Home, Mrs. Olalade Ademolakun, appreciated the NYSC for the gesture and thanked God for keeping them alive to witness the day.

“We pray that one day, our children will also become corps members, that’s why we are training them,” she said.

Also, the Baale of Masopa community in Egbeda Local Government Area of the state, Chief Saheed Masopa,  promised to give more support to the NYSC scheme in the community while commending the NYSC for the kind gesture. (NAN)
