TOM Aliezi, Chairman, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers, on Wednesday urged youths in the area to shun all forms of violence and embrace peace to ensure sustainable development in the area.

Aliezi, the newly elected chairman of the council, made the call in a chat with newsmen at Emohua, the council headquarters.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that several communities in area have in recent times recorded cult related violence and criminal activities, including chieftaincy tussles and inter-gang battles.

According to the chairman, the local council has put measures in place to ensure the protection of lives and property in all communities in the area.

He said that the youths must support the plans of the council by being law abiding, peaceful and enterprising.

Aliezi added that the council is working with law enforcement agencies to punish offenders.

“While we urge the youths to be peaceful and supportive of government policies, we are also making it clear that we will not support crime.

“We have effective synergy with the law enforcement agencies, anybody found culpable of contravention of the laws will be apprehended and prosecuted,’’ he said.

The council chairman said that Gov. Nyesom Wike administration has zero tolerance for crime and cultism, and the local council would not compromise on that.

“We can only enjoy development when our communities are peaceful and capable of hosting companies undertaking projects.

“So it is our collective responsibilities to promote peaceful and harmonious relationships in our various communities,’’ Aliezi said.(NAN)
