Court remands man, 20, for allegedly defiling 10-year-old girl

AN Ikeja  Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday  remanded a 20-year-old man, Moses Badmus, at a correctional facility, for allegedly defiling a 10-year old girl.

Badmus who resides at Alaguntan Bus Stop, Anifowose area of Lagos, is being charged with defilement.

The prosecutor, Insp John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in June at Olusegun Close, Alimosho, Iyana-ipaja, Lagos.

Iberedem said that  Badmus forcefully had sexual intercourse with the victim severally without her consent.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of defiling a minor.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje did not take Badmus’ plea.

She ordered that Badmus be remanded at a correctional centre and the case file sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Kubeinje adjourned the case until Oct. 15 for the DPP’s legal advice.(NAN)
