Court remands man, 31, over alleged armed robbery in Ado-Ekiti

AN Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 31-year-old man, Ajayi Paul at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti over the alleged armed robbery.

The defendant whose address was not provided is being tried for armed robbery. The prosecutor, Insp. Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 29, in Ado-Ekiti.

Ikebuilo told the court that the defendant boarded a motorcycle, on their way, the complainant, Joshua Efe, an Okada rider, noticed that the defendant brought out a knife and he had to immediately park his motorcycle.

She said that while trying to park, the defendant ordered him to hand over his key, but he refused and in the process, the defendant punched him and zoom off with the motorcycle.

She said that the defendant was later apprehended and was handed over to the police.

According to her, the offence contravened Section 2(1) (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearm Act Cap RII Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The plea of the defendant was not taken. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a Correctional Centre, pending the issuance of legal advice. Anoma adjourned the case until Sept.18 for mention. (NAN)
