Court remands man for allegedly defiling 14-year-old girl

A Family Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State on Friday ordered that a 24-year-old man, Olamide Oyeola should be remanded in a corrections centre for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs S. Kubeinje, did not take the plea of Oyeola for want in jurisdiction, adjourned the matter for legal advice from the Office of the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Kubeinje adjourned the matter until July 23,for DPP’s advice.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyeola, 24, of Igando area,Lagos, was charged by the Police on a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault.
He was also charged with a one-count of emotional injury and sex abuse according to the Child’s Rights Law.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp John Iberedem told the court that on June 14 at about 9.00pm, Oyeolathe defiled the minor at Akinola Adedeji Street, Isuti, Igando, Lagos.
He also alleged that Oyeola did infringe on the right to dignity of the teenager by subjecting her to emotional injury and sex abuse.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 137 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
He also added that section C.H.C 710(1) of the
Child Rights Act Laws of Lagiz State, 2015 was also anime the offence contravened.
Sections 137 stipulates life imprisonment for the offence of defilement of a child.
Section 263 stipulates three years imprisonment for any person who sexually touches another without his/ her comsent. (NAN)
