Court remands man over alleged armed robbery

AN Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a middle-aged man, Jamiu Ismaila, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for alleged armed robbery .

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Odubajo, who did not take the plea of Ismaila ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Odubajo adjourned the case until for July 19 for DPP’s advice.

Ismaila, who resides at Ijora area of Lagos State, is being tried for conspiracy and armed robbery.

Earlier, the Prosecution, Sgt Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with one other person still at large on June 7 at Suramagaji, Ilupeju, Lagos.

Adejumola said that the defendant armed himself with a gun and dagger and robbed Mrs Temitope Ajirotutu.

“While running back towards his motorcycle, the complainant raised alarm, the defendant was arrested while his accomplice escaped.

“A gun and dagger were recovered from him,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 297(1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297(1) attracts 21 years imprisonment for armed robbery, while Section 411 prescribes two years for conspiracy.(NAN)
