THE Enugu State Government has warned that the wearing of face masks remains compulsory in the state, as part of the measures to check the spread of COVID-19.

Dr Emmanuel Obi, the Commissioner for Health, gave this warning during a courtesy visit by members of the United Alternative Medical Practitioners and Complimentary Association of Nigeria (UAMPCAN) to his office on Thursday in Enugu.

According to him, as a responsible resident of the state, you must wear a facemask or face cover whenever you must go out.

“Keep a safe distance from other people at all times, which is social/physical distancing and avoid crowded places. Practise good respiratory hygiene (when coughing or sneezing).

“Wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds under running water as often as possible.

“And when facilities for handwashing are unavailable, sanitise your hands as often as possible using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

“Clean surfaces around you regularly with a solution of 1 part of bleach and 99 parts of water (e.g. one mililitre of bleach into 99 mililitre of water, mixed),’’ he said.

The commissioner lauded members of the association for their contribution to the healthcare system of the state.

“The ministry is willing to cooperate with all health associations to move healthcare forward in the state,’’ he said.

Earlier, Prof. Joseph Akpa, the Chairman, Board of Trustee of UAMPCAN, congratulated Obi on his recent appointment as the state commissioner for health and lauded him for his efforts in battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Akpa, however, said that UAMPCAN in Enugu State had not been involved in any programme in the state towards the battle against the spread COVID-19.

“We are hereby requesting you and the state Ministry of Health to involve UAMPCAN members in all aspects of the battle against Covid-19 pandemic,’’ he said.

“I affirm that we shall always cooperate with the authorities of the Enugu State Ministry of Health in all aspects of the healthcare delivery system provided we are invited and given the opportunity to perform,’’ he said.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of a pack of herbal remedy for COVID-19 called: “Immunity Enhancement 200x’’, which was developed by Akpa through his Energy Health Alternative Medicine.
