THE Enugu State Government on Friday distributed food items to orphanages in the state as palliatives against the effect of COVID-19 pandemic.

The state deputy governor, Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo, handed over the food items to the representatives of the orphanage homes at the Government House, Enugu.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the items included bags of rice, cartons of Maggi seasoning, cartons of table water, and cartons of noodles.

Ezeilo thanked workers of the different orphanages for their care, saying the state government appreciated their humanitarian work.

She described orphanages as homes for the care and protection of orphans.

”On behalf of his Excellency, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and the people of the state, we thank you for taking up this Godly function.

”We know that it is not easy but be consoled by the promise of our Lord Jesus  Christ: ‘Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me’.

”Am sure is on that you volunteered yourselves for this Godly function. So we thank you so much and that is why his Excellency in his nature remembered the orphans under your care,” Ezeilo said.

Mrs Chilee Ononiwu, who spoke on behalf of operators of the different orphanages, thanked the state government for the love shown to the orphans.

”On behalf of all the orphanage homes in the state, we say thank you to his Excellency Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for this love.

”Our prayer is that the good lord should bless and protect him and all that is working with him,” Ononiwu said. (NAN)
