Coronavirus Pandemic

Global Peace Foundation of Nigeria (GPF) has advised authorities tasked with distributing foodstuffs and other items to the poor amid the coronavirus lockdown, to treat everyone equally, as one family under God.

Its Country Director, Rev. Joseph Hayab, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Saturday.

According to him, the coronavirus does not discriminate on the basis of religion, ethnic origin or any form of identity.

“While we collectively act in unison to bring the spread of COVID-19 to a stop, as one family under God, we call on all to work as a family.

”The result of this oneness will be a peaceful society irrespective of ethnic or religious affinities, promoting common humanity.

“Coronavirus is killing human beings without discrimination and has brought hardship and hunger to all classes of people.

”Those given the responsibility to distribute palliatives to the less privileged citizens should do so treating them equally as members of one family under God,” he said.

Hayab expressed the foundation’s support for the  measures taken by government to contain the Coronavirus, adding that Nigerians should obey health advice given by health workers and the government.

He said that Nigerians should respect and obey the “Stay at Home” order by the government as it would go a long way toward containing the spread of the virus.

Hayab added Nigerian leaders to use the opportunity offered by the coronavirus pandemic to strengthen the country’s health system and human values, as well as consolidate the desired peace to move the country forward.

He praised frontline health workers and other people that put their lives on the line worldwide for immense sacrifices they had made to help victims of the virus.

”We love you and reckon that you are the real heroes of the moment.

“We are willing to work together with our governments, at the federal, state, and local government levels, to unite our citizens at this trying period,” he said. (NAN)
