COVID-19: KEDCO donates food items to Kebbi State Government

The management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has donated food items, including 500 bags rice and 400 cartons of noodles to the Kebbi State Government as palliatives to cushion COVID-19 effects.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items also included 100 cartons of cooking oil and 100 bags of Semovita.

Presenting the items in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, the KEDCO Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Garba Haruna, said the gesture was in line with the company’s complementary role toward fighting the deadly global pandemic.

Haruna was represented by the trio of Head of Operations, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara zone of the company, Mr Sunday Yahaya; Head of Unit, Media and Communication, Idris Muhammad; and Area Manager, Kebbi North Area Office, AbdulWahab Suleiman.

The KEDCO managing director described the gesture as the fulfilment of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company.

He said that as a responsible corporate citizen of the state, KEDCO would always stand by the people of Kebbi State and provide support where necessary.

Haruna assured the government and the people that the company cherished the long standing mutual beneficial partnership existing between it and Kebbi State Government.

According to him, the company will always do its best within the limit of resources available to it to support the state government in its strive to take Kebbi to greater heights of development.

Receiving the food items on behalf of the government, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Ja’afaru Muhammad, appreciated the management of KEDCO for the gesture.

Muhammad, who is also the Chairman of the State Task Force on COVID-19, pledged that the items would be conveyed to the intended beneficiaries.

He, however, called on other corporate organisations to emulate the kind gesture of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.

“Indeed, these food items will go a long way in providing palliative to the poor and vulnerable in this critical time,” he said.

Also at the presentation was Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Chairman of the Sub-committee on Relief, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Umar.

Others are Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alhaji Hassan Ibrahim-Maigandi, as well as the state ALGON Chairman and Chairman, Jega Local Government, Alhaji Shehu Marshal.

Also in attendance was the Chief Medical Director, Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, Dr Aminu Haliru-Bunza among others. (NAN)
